The 77th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 15th September 1852 over the 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Stockwell, a chestnut colt by The Baron out of Pocahontas, owned by Brownlow Cecil, 2nd Marquess of Exeter. A field of 6 runners contested the race, although there were 116 subscriptions of 25 sovereigns each, which was worth 2900 sovereigns. The value to the winner was £2,775 (Equivalent to £355,200 in 2017)
